How it works and differs from traditional OTA platforms.
Google Vacation Rentals. How to Get Listed.
What Is Google Vacation Rentals?
Google Vacation Rentals functionality allows travelers to find and book vacation rental properties directly through Google Search, Google Maps, and the dedicated tab under the Google Travel category.
Travelers can also find vacation rentals on Google by browsing the Vacation Rentals tab in Google Travel. It’s Google’s metasearch product that helps travelers plan their upcoming trips and search for flights, hotels, and vacation rentals. This service works similarly to other travel metasearch engines like HomeToGo or Kayak.
How to List on Google Vacation Rentals?
Hospitable Direct integrates with Google Vacation Rentals. That means you can create your direct booking website with Hospitable Direct, and your property will get listed on Google Vacation Rentals. You will get bookings with zero investment in promotion and without paying high third-party fees.
Some OTAs partner with GVR—in this case, listings get additional exposure, but regular OTA fees apply to such bookings.
How to make your Google Vacation Rental listings stand out?
The main difference between Google Vacation Rentals vs. Airbnb is that Google Vacation Rentals is a metasearch engine for short-term rentals, and Airbnb is a traditional OTA like Vrbo and Booking.com.
The Google Vacation Rentals functionality is an aggregator, and users can’t book directly via Google. If they decide to reserve a property, they will be redirected to the website of the online travel agency or property management company where the rental is listed.
Airbnb and other OTAs work as middlemen between the STR property owners and travelers. They provide a marketplace where owners and property managers can list their rentals, and guests can find suitable accommodations and then book their stay.
Currently, hosts can’t create a listing directly on Google Vacation Rentals. Only property management companies with over 5,000 properties and a tech team can directly integrate with Google Vacation Rentals and list their properties there.
Instead, property owners must work with Google’s approved partners like Hospitable. Also, you can get your rentals to appear on Google if you list them on OTAs partnering with Google, for example, Tripadvisor, Expedia, HolidayLettings, BluePillow, or Plum Guide.
It’s worth noting that Booking.com is currently a Google Vacation Rentals Partner, so if you list your property there, it may be picked up by the crawler and displayed on Google Vacation Rentals.
Neither Airbnb nor Vrbo are currently making their inventory available on Google. It’s a matter of negotiations between Google and the OTA—the situation may change.
Google is the most popular search engine in the world, and more than nine out of every ten online searches occur there. This means that by appearing on Google Vacation Rentals, you can significantly increase your visibility and reach millions of potential guests searching on Google daily, including international travelers looking for a longer stay.
Travelers who land on your Google Vacation Rental listing will be redirected to your Hospitable Direct website, and as this service is free, you’ll get commission-free direct bookings. And since Google is a trusted service, all potential guests will see your STR business similarly. This can help you boost your reputation with your target market.
