Providing a comfortable and eco-friendly guest experience is a key to success in the short-term rental market. While tidy lodgings and responsive communication are expected, integrating smart technology like thermostats can elevate your hosting game to the next level.
With growing awareness of sustainability and demand for modern amenities, hosts face the challenge of balancing operational efficiency with guest comfort. By automating temperature control with smart thermostats, you can reduce energy consumption, streamline your check-in and check-out routines, and enhance the overall comfort of your guests.
With these smart thermostats, you can be sure that guests feel comfortable as soon as they step foot on your property. You can also ensure to save money by maximizing the eco-mode presets while your properties are unoccupied. This is why we are excited to announce that you can now connect your Smart Thermostats to Hospitable!
How’s It Work?
Connecting Smart Thermostats
You can integrate supported thermostats directly with Hospitable under the Devices page. Supported thermostats include models from Ecobee and Honeywell, but more are soon to come. After connecting your thermostats, you’ll gain full control over your properties’ temperature settings and can automate your devices using custom presets.
Setting Up Thermostat Presets
Under the Devices page, go to the Thermostat Presets tab. Here you’ll see we have provided you with three default preset types:
- Occupied: Set a comfortable temperature range for guests that will activate two hours before check-in.
- Unoccupied: When the property is vacant for shorter periods, lower or raise the temperature after guests check out to save energy.
- Long-term Unoccupied: Activates when there’s a vacancy of more than two weeks, then transitions to Unoccupied mode two days before the next check-in, ensuring maximum energy efficiency.
Every custom preset you create will be categorized by one of these three default states so we properly automate the temperature at the right time. Many hosts create presets based on seasonal changes, climate control for animals or plants, and different areas of the property.
Automation with Reservation Status
Once you’ve connected your smart thermostats, Hospitable will automatically adjust the temperature settings based on your guest’s reservation status. When a guest checks in, the thermostat switches to the default or a custom "Occupied" type preset. Upon check-out, it will revert to the "Unoccupied" type preset, saving energy without any manual effort from you.

Why Use It?
There are many benefits to using smart thermostats, both for guests and yourself as a host. Here are a few that we think make the biggest impact:
- Save Money with Energy Efficiency. Smart thermostats help reduce utility bills by avoiding unnecessary heating or cooling. Automated temperature adjustments during vacancy periods ensure you're not paying for comfort when it’s not needed.
- Save Time with Automation. Integrating smart thermostats into your system eliminates the need for manual adjustments. This frees up time to focus on other aspects of hosting, ensuring smooth operations.
- Enhance Guest Satisfaction. By providing a consistently comfortable environment, you enhance the guest experience, encouraging positive reviews and repeat bookings. Guests appreciate the modern convenience and care for their comfort.
- Promote Sustainability. With energy-efficient temperature control, you reduce your carbon footprint, supporting sustainability efforts while showcasing your commitment to eco-conscious hosting.
Implementing smart thermostats is a simple step toward a more sustainable, guest-centric, and efficient rental operation. Start saving time and money while delivering a top-notch experience today!
